I'm glad you considered it... I wanted to reflect on this subset of anxiety experience that I'm picking up on, but the general topic of anxiety could fill volumes, and as a family doc and not a psychiatrist, I'm writing without a firm grasp of the psychiatric underpinnings. Limiting, and freeing!
Dr. McCormick's eloquence is absolutely amazing. Perhaps some of us are less anxious because the profound problems of our society and the world have numbed us. A fatalistic, but maybe, a realistic approach. The current situation is too overwhelming.
Thank you :) I agree there is a lot of numbness from all the trauma and disasters lately. If that numbness can be leveraged such that it insulates us from pain, but still allows for engagement and not defeatism, then like anaesthesia before surgery - yes, please.
That last paragraph - so beautifully written! It is so important to remember that we are all connected. There are times when it seems to me that everyone else "has it all together", that I am on the outside, looking in. Then I remember that everyone feels that way sometimes and that, in turn, enables me to reach out again, which allows me to escape my self-made vortex!
Very well said, I agree. I feel like there should be a truthful facebook equivalent... I would be more likely to participate if there was less FOMO. Then again I'm trying to live more in the actual world, outside of writing this letter ;) No one has it all together as far as I can tell from my less guarded moments in the office
This was an excellent analysis of the profound impact the pandemic had on the lives of those challenged with anxieties

I wasn't thinking of FB but, yes, that brings it to a whole new level!
