I assume that whoever said no one born before 1957 needs a vaccine, assumes this because we have likely been exposed in childhood, and hence have immunity. But I was born in 1952 and recently underwent immunity testing for measles and they found, as I expected they would, that I had 0 immunity. I have since received my 2 MMR doses.

Thank you for doing this! This is exactly what we need to fill the void of science-based info essential to keeping those who will heed it safe.

I am in that grey area, born in 1958, military kid so probably received the killed virus vaccine.

I’m

Leaving for Mexico in 3 days so I will contact my doctor when I return and ask for a booster.

My sister and I both born before 1957 had the measles together in 1961. We both have grandchildren now and get a booster before we are allowed around any of them..gratefully.

I've been debating to get tested myself ('52 with original parts that are mostly working). Recall last post that I shared a study that suggested vaccinated measles cases are less likely to have or reduced immune amnesia.

Measles vaccination can wane over time. My titers were done when I applied for a hospital based job in 2010. My titers were high for mumps and rubella but 0 for measles. I’m born in 1967, so not sure what vaccine I received back then. I got a booster shot.

Absolutely agree, thanks Mim. Skimmed but will read later. Have to go home and get out of the office asap!

Thanks for the comment. Still unsure why being born before 1957 ensures safety.

It doesn't - but the virus was so common, and measles is SO infectious, that nearly everyone born before then caught it once they were school-aged. By 1957, school-aged overlaps with the first widespread uses of a measles vaccine, so that assumption can no longer be safely made after that date.
